Time Well Spent

Image
First and foremost, I would like to thank you all for your encouragement and support throughout this course and my time in this program. I really could not have done it without you. You all are an inspiration to me. I have enjoyed working along side you as we took this journey together. I am appreciative of all your insight and feedback. So truly thank you! I have learned many things over the last 22 months and I will continue to learn even after I complete this program. One thing that resonates with me is that being a leader is not a simple task and requires a person to be able to work well within a group and alone. A leader needs to be able to offer suggestions, but also be open to feedback.  She should be a decision-marker and capable of asking for help. Another thing I learned is that it takes a certain passion to work with children and their families. A passion that comes from within. Lastly, I learned, through my Capstone project, how important play is to children and th

Jobs in the ECE Community: Internationally

Teach For All appealed to me because this organization believes that all children have a right to "an education that meets their diverse needs, advocates who challenge the injustices they face, services that support their healthy development, and tools to navigate the world they will inherit" (Teach For All, n.d.). Teach For All works in many countries around the world developing leadership to support improvements for children's education opportunities. There is an opportunity in South Africa and Asia for a director of leadership development. This position requires candidates to possess a local work authorization. The candidate needs to have experience in a leadership development and working well with diverse groups of stakeholders in a global capacity. Plus, the director needs to be innovative and can turn ideas into reality. UNESCO is an organization "seeks to build peace through international cooperation in Education, the Sciences and Culture" (UNESCO

Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: National/Federal Level

One organization that appealed to me is Teach for America. The reason I chose them is because they strive to end educational inequity. They not only work with many children from low-income communities and give them the support they need to grow and develop, but also work with educators to help strengthen the schools the children attend. The organization can be found in several cities across America with different opportunities in each of the cities. One opportunity is a leadership coach in Memphis, while the other is in Denver as a manager of teacher leadership. Both jobs require experience managing others in achieving goals. Plus, they require applicants to have a passion for coaching and working with adults and children and a proven track record of successfully coaching adults. Another organization that piqued my interest is Childhood Education International. This organization believes "positively transforming education is critical to securing a life for children and a s

Exploring Roles in the ECE Community

When exploring various organizations who want to do right by children and families, these three organizations were in the top for me. I appreciate what each stands for and how they all focus on providing children the opportunity to attend  high quality programs. In addition, they provide educators with information on how to best support children and families in their care.      There are a couple of job opportunities available at NAEYC and Child360; however, the openings are in another state or cities that are not close to where I live. Having to relocate is unfortunately not an option for me at this moment. If I were to choose an opening that piques my interest, it would be to work at Child360 as a quality ratings specialist or as a family advocate. Both of these jobs would entail me to have effective communication skills, knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and have strong problem-solving skills. In addition, education in a related field and experi

A Big Thank You

Words cannot express the gratitude I feel when I think about all the help and support you all have given me throughout the course. You have pushed me to improve my communication skills and be a better communicator, as well as a better person. I could not have gotten through the course without any of you. You all are amazing colleagues and I am glad I got to know and work with you. I wish you all continued success in your future courses at Walden! Thank you again for all that you have done for me! I greatly appreciate it! Warmest Regards, Trisha

One special group that I participated in was back in high school during my senior year. I had the opportunity to go on a retreat which lasted five days and four nights. While at the retreat, we were separated into groups with a team leader and with people who went to school with each other but maybe not really got to know each other well. Over our time there, we got to know and trust each other and had the best time, not just as part of a small group but also as a whole. Prior to us leaving the retreat, we had the chance to celebrate our experience and "say good-bye" to one another before going back to school and getting back to our "regular" lives.  It was sad to live because we knew that things would not be the same once we got back since most of us had different circles of friends. I believe once my colleagues and I adjourn from working on our master's degree together, it will be hard to say good-bye because we have learned so much from one another and enco
